Introduction to Water Microbiology
AIM To provide a detailed review and assessment of microorganisms of public health significance in the water environment.
CONTENT
  • Microorganisms and water.
  • Origin of microorganisms of public health significance.
  • Characteristics, types, metabolism, multiplication, survival.
  • Viable but not culturable microorganisms.
  • Health problems caused by polluted drinking/recreational water.
OUTCOME On completing the module, the students will be aware of the mechanisms that facilitate the spread of problem microorganisms in drinking and recreational waters, as well as the likely impact on public health.
